There have been more than a few studies about the relationship of Nazi technology and UFOs just as there have been many studies, including mine and Joel Martin’s The Haunting of Twentieth-Century America and The Haunting of Twenty-first-Century America (2011, 2013) about the mystical aspects of Nazi philosophy, such as it was, and Hitler’s cult beliefs and their relationship to Nazi secret technology. For an excellent overview of this history, see Joseph P. Farrell’s Secrets of the Unified Field: The Philadelphia Experiment, The Nazi Bell, and the Discarded Theory (2008) and The SS Brotherhood of the Bell: The Nazis’ Incredible Secret Technology (2006). What I was hoping for in this episode was to avoid the wow factor in exploring the history of Nazi technology and to focus on the science and the physics of what the German Wehrmacht sought to develop absent as much cultism as possible. I also wanted the episode to focus on the facts about the German rocketry engineers we revere so much in America because of their contributions to our space programs after the war and right through the Apollo program. There was no doubt about the contributions of Von Braun, Oberth, Debus, and Strughold, just as there was no doubt about the war crimes these men committed and their escape from the Nuremburg tribunal. Moreover, we should note their reliance upon the work of American rocketry pioneer Robert Goddard well before the start of World War II. For all their developmental accomplishments, ultimately, their technology did not turn the war around in their favor. In fact, Hitler himself was so convinced of the superiority of his aerospace technology that he relied on his existing aircraft to confront the Allied bombers until it was too late to deploy his more advanced jet-propelled Messerschmitts and his experimental rocket plane. Even the German ballistic and cruise missiles, which could have made a big difference in the war, were subjected to Allied bombardment of their development sites early in the war and only got to be deployed after the war was already lost when the German’s eastern front collapsed. All of these historical events were the basis of our investigation into whether the Nazis had any connection to UFOs.

What the episode showed was that, indeed, the Nazis had very advanced technology and had possibly created a fantastic device called Die Glocke, also the subject of much conjecture and myth. For example, one theory concerning the time-travel aspect of the Bell posits that even if the device were capable of transporting a small crew back in time, what would that accomplish? Would we start another timeline, leaving our original timeline intact so that we actually changed nothing? Would we cause a catastrophe in our own timeline? Alternatively, there is the theory that the Bell was not a craft or a weapon at all, but a type of nuclear fuel enrichment device to enable the Germans to assemble a nuclear warhead that would devastate London, thus knocking England out of
